Benalla Sustainable Future Group

Benalla Sustainable Future Group promotes a sustainable vision for Benalla to:

  • Reduce the region’s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions
  • Assist residents to respond to the changing world by using natural resources wisely
  • Reduce reliance on non-renewable sources of energy
  • Promote environmental awareness and responsibility
  • Protect, restore and rehabilitate the natural environment
  • Build and nurture a community in which relationships, social justice and creativity are highly valued.

We are a coalition of diverse individuals with different ideas and we work by using action groups which focus on particular areas such as Sustainable Housing, Bulk Foods Cooperative, Biofuels and plastic bag reduction.

We have contributed to the development of Benalla Rural City’s Environment Strategy and we regularly publish articles under the “Sustainability Matters” banner in the Benalla Ensign.

The Benalla Sustainable Future Group holds general meetings every second month in January, March, May, July, September and November. Meetings are normally held on the fourth Thursday of the month. Members are kept informed by email of meetings and other events. The group meets at 7:30 pm in the meeting room at the Uniting Church in Carrier Street, Benalla. (Opposite Coles supermarket).
