WIRRAMINNA is a wonderful volunteer run and community based project which fosters an understanding of native plants and animals within our local woodland environments.
Wirraminna is a 4 ha area within Burrumbuttock township, adjacent to the Public School and includes wetlands, woodland remnants and landscaped areas linked by walking tracks. There are picnic facilities, an electric BBQ, composting toilet, visitor centre, self-guided walks and the Discovery Centre building. Interpretative signs help visitors understand aspects of woodland ecology.
Wirraminna is always open to visitors and guided tours can be arranged. It is a great field study area for students and school group visits can be organised by contacting Stacee (see below).
The Discovery Centre houses a native fish aquarium, Southern Corroboree Frog enclosure, taxidermy collection and other interpretative displays. It is open most Thursdays and by arrangement. The Centre can be hired for workshops and meetings and has audio visual equipment.
We love to see visitors and groups enjoying Wirraminna and always greatly appreciate any help from volunteers. Our current volunteer day is a Wednesday from around 9am to 1pm but please call one of us first.
