This is the perfect walk for those who have yet to experience a night out on the High Plains. The walk is an EASY 6kms to the huts, all on track and eminently suitable for FIRST TIME overnighters. (Experienced overnighters are more than welcome to join us!) The walk follows the Australian Alps Walking Track from Cope Hut, passes Cope Saddle Hut and then proceeds along a flat maintenance track beside a viaduct. All up, it takes about 2 hours of cruisy walking to reach Ryder’s Yards where there are plenty of flat, grassy spots to pitch tents, an ample supply of water nearby and a very comfy hut where we can cook meals and socialise. After setting up camp we’ll hike down to the ‘secret’ waterfall and swimming hole where we can cool off, so bring your bathers (or not!) If you think you may not be properly equipped, remember you can hire gear from Adventure Gear, Albury or we can rustle up whatever you might need from other members. I hope as many first timers as possible will take this opportunity to join me for this little adventure.
