Sustainability comes alive this month with more than 30 events over 30 days during the Albury Wodonga Sustainable Living Festival.
Now in its fourth year, the festival features an array of activities across a variety of venues, most free of charge.
The festival kicks off this morning with a Wildflower Walk ‘n’ Talk at Castle Creek Conservation Reserve and finishes on November 30 with a renewable energy forum in Thurgoona. In between there are many activities to inspire, engage and empower.
If you’re itching for practical actions and saving money, you’ll love this month’s shoe and toy swaps, boomerang bags sewing bee, de-cluttering workshop and beeswax food wraps demo, as well as a progressive discussion on women’s business: natural alternatives to monthly disposables.
If it is gardening and sampling you enjoy, we have a native nursery tour, bush tucker tour and lunch, Bhutanese community farm walk, talk and taste and a screening of Academy Award nominated Food Inc.
Ever wonder what happens to your bin contents after they get carted from the kerbside? Or which bin to use when? Then book a berth on the Albury Waste Management Centre Recycling Tour.
Be inspired to build well and attend the International Earth Building Conference, a tour at Elmwood Living Estate or a tiny house design workshop.
Arts and cultural activities include a sustainable photography competition and exhibition, Lorax drama workshop for 7-17 year olds and a quirky soap opera art exhibition.
The Sustainable Living Fair at Junction Square November 18 is a not-to-be-missed event featuring dozens of stalls, two tiny house experiences, electric cars and bikes, informative talks, Julie Goodwin cooking demonstration and a clothes swap.
From 10am to noon, you can even book 15-minute speed dates with our energy, building and garden design experts. Please bring your electricity bills or house and garden plans to get the most out of your “date”.
The fair will have plenty to amuse the children, from planting take-home seedlings to table tennis, giant Jenga and a wishbone rally tricycle course for small children.
