This is an out and back hike on the Lockhart’s Gap Track near Tallangatta, starting at the Tallangatta Lookout. The first hour is a very steep, thigh burning uphill climb on a fire maintenance road so you’ll need to be physically fit for the challenge! From the top of the climb the walking becomes a bit more cruisy but be warned there are still some very steep ups and downs to follow. Hike poles are recommended. This is a great hit out if you’re thinking of the Lockhart’s Gap Crossover Walk later in the year or maybe tackling Bogong. We’ll walk for a couple of hours on the track before taking a short break and then retracing our steps and gathering at the Lookout for a shared afternoon tea before heading our separate ways. There is the option to meet for a coffee (or even breakfast) at the Yellow Picket Fence Cafe in Tallangatta beforehand as the walk will not start until 10:00am.
