This Changes Everything

By Diana Nicholson, member of Wodonga Albury Towards Climate Health (WATCH)

I have never been a sceptic of climate change. When I read the science and found out as much as I could there was no disputing the fact that as a result of human activities, large-scale climate change is under way. However the nagging concern I felt was easily silenced as a young adult consumed with, well, dare I say it, consumption – spending most of my disposable income on stuff and giving little thought to climate change and the future of our planet. Then I became a mother. Overnight my thought process changed drastically. I suddenly felt an urgency to learn more about climate change and to do all I could to create a more sustainable world for my children.

The film ‘This Changes Everything’ based on the best-selling book by author Naomi Klein addresses climate change from a different angle. Unlike many works about the climate crisis, this is not a film that tries to scare the audience into action: it aims to empower. Klein argues climate change is not really about carbon at all, it’s about capitalism. She also reminds us that all is not lost and there is so much we can all do both individually and collectively to turn this around.

I am extremely excited that we have the opportunity to screen This Changes Everything at Regent Cinemas in Albury at 6.30pm on Monday, 2nd of November. Tickets are available through Tugg, a web-platform enabling individuals to choose the films that play in their cinema. But we need to sell 66 or more tickets before 26th October for the screening to proceed. If climate change is something you are concerned or wanting to learn more about please come along. Invite family and friends too.

Things are changing. People are thinking differently. People are starting to reconnect with nature and the environment and a new appreciation for our incredible planet is emerging. More people each and every day are waking up to the fact that although we are taking steps in the right direction, we need to do more. Climate change is real and it is happening now. We need to learn more, ask more questions and expect more from our politicians and our leaders. Supporting a film like This Changes Everything is another way you can support the environment movement toward sustainability and climate health.
