SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - JB Plain car camp
DESCRIPTION:This is a weekend that can suit nearly everyone.  Near Dinner Plain\,  it is only about 200 m from the car park to the JB Plain campsites. That means you can bring real food and luxury items. (Banana lounges have been seen popping up and the odd bottle of wine has been spotted on previous JB weekends.)  There is a toilet so no trowels required. \nThe plan for the weekend is pretty flexible and can as simple as reading a book\, chatting\, walking in for an coffee and eating.  We usually have a fire at night to relax by. \nLast year we walked up Mt Higinnbotham for sunset on Friday night\, had the choice of an easy or moderate walk on Saturday and did a 7km walk up Mt Loch on Sunday. \nThe hotel sells pizzas so most of us opted for take away on Saturday night. \nIf you’re not into camping you could even book accommodation in Dinner Plain and join us for most of the time. \n\n\n\nLeader: Bernadette\nPhone: 0419241687\nFinal booking date: Wednesday Jan 10th\nSome camp sites are under trees but this can be avoided.\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - The Huts Walk
DESCRIPTION:This is an 18km Circuit on Mt Hotham that visits 3 different huts: Silver Brumby Hut 1992 (rebuilt 2006-7)\, Spargo Hut (1927-8) and Derrick Hut (1967). \nWith enough cars a car shuffle can be arranged to cut down on the distance. \nThe tracks vary from fire trails\, narrow footpads and a section of a grassy track that is not always clear.  There is a fair bit of up and down over the day and there  are some steep sections; one coming up after Silver Brumby and another heading up to Spargos Hut. \nUnless you are well known to me as a walker\, please call me to discuss this walk. \n\nGrade 4 Medium-Hard\nLeader: Bernadette\nPhone: 0419241687\nParticipant numbers:8\nFinal booking date: Wed Dec 6th\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au

DESCRIPTION:This is a cruisy ride on the High Country Rail Trail beginning at Ludlow’s Reserve and taking cyclists on a brilliant scenic journey beside Lake Hume\, across the iconic Sandy Creek Bridge to Tallangatta\, the town that moved. We’ll buy some lunch (or BYO) and ride down to the foreshore to enjoy the scenery before riding back to Ludlow’s Reserve\, a total distance of around 46kms.\nThe trail is undulating with some moderate gradients and is a mix of smooth gravel and sealed sections. DESCRIPTION:Did you know that common turtle species have declined 90% over the past 40 years?  \nLearn how to help save local turtles before their Nov-Dec turtle nesting season. Hear about turtles’ threats and how you can protect them\, including the 1 Million Turtles program and TurtleSAT citizen science mapping tool. \nDr James Van Dyke is a Senior Lecturer at La Trobe University and winner of the 2023 Eureka Prize for Innovation in Citizen Science. \nEvent will commence 5.30pm sharp (with drinks available at bar prices from 5.00pm) at The Venue on McFarland (formerly the German-Austrian Club)\, 5 McFarland Rd\, Wodonga.  \nPresentation will run for approximately 45 mins\, followed by optional site visit to Belvoir Lake to view turtle signage and potential nesting sites. SUMMARY:National Bird Week – Walk and Talk
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate National Bird Week\, join the AlburyCity environment team for a walk & talk within Corrys Reserve to spot some of our local bird species. Come see the diversity of bird life that these woodlands provide habitat for\, from the fairy wrens to the finches\, lorikeets\, honeyeaters\, parrots and everything in-between. \nThe walk will cross both even and uneven ground\, with a slight inclines and declines. The walk will last approximately 1 hour. \nAny children need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The event may be cancelled if poor weather is forecast. \nMeeting Point: Corrys Wood Reserve (Eastern end of Corrys Road)  \nWhat to Bring: Binoculars\, hat\, enclosed shoes and appropriate clothing for conditions. \nRegister HERE – National Bird Week – Walk and Talk | AlburyCity (nsw.gov.au) \n\nThe Aussie Bird Count coincides with National Bird Week and is helping researchers better understand the bird species that occur in our urban area.
