SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Myrtleford to Bright bike ride
DESCRIPTION:This is a popular ride on the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail. There are no big climbs or descents so it’s not too taxing\, but you do need to be able to cover the 60kms comfortably. We will meet at the rear of the Coles Supermarket in Myrtleford. The route takes us through Ovens\, Eurobin\, and Porepunkah so there is the option to shorten the ride by joining us from one of those places. We will find a cafe in Bright to have lunch before riding back. Participants should carry a spare tube and puncture repair kit. DESCRIPTION:In spring there’s no better place to be than in the Warby Ranges. The variety of wildflowers is of international significance. \nOur day will be spent wandering some short easy tracks; Pangerang Lookout Track\, 4.5km return\, Pine Gully Falls loop track 2km and Jubilee Falls track 1km return. We will have morning tea\, with panoramic views to the west over farmlands and the floodplain at the turn around point on the Pangerang Lookout walk. \nAfter returning to the cars we have a very short drive to Pine Gully picnic ground. The 2km loop will take us through impressive stands of grass trees before we reach the top of Pine Gully Falls. \nAfter lunch in the picnic area\, we will then drive another short distance to Briens Gorge picnic area. DESCRIPTION:We will meet at Ludlow’s Reserve on the Murray Valley Highway and cycle the Rail Trail to Tallangatta\, crossing the Sandy Creek Bridge on the way. This is a very scenic ride with Lake Hume on our left shoulder heading out and right shoulder coming back. The rail trail is a mixture of hard packed gravel and sealed asphalt with a few undulations. We will have lunch in Tallangatta at a local cafe or the bakery before a short ride around the foreshore and then head back to the start point. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever had that magical moment of spotting a platypus in the wild? \nJoin us at this event to learn where to look for\, and how spot\, platypus in the wild for this great #CitizenScience project\, a partnership with ACF\, UNSW\, Centre for Ecosystem Science\, and Platypus Conservation Initiative. \nACF-AWR is excited to be hosting events again in 2026 for the wonderful citizen science platy-project. \nJoin us and help researchers understand more about this elusive animal and how we can better protect it. \nWhen: 12 September\, 10:30 am \nWhere: Pfeiffer Wines\, 167 Distillery Rd.\, Wahgunyah\, Victoria \nWhat we’ll be doing: \n\nWelcome from our winery host\, Kylie\nAn introductory talk from Anne\, Pfeiffer Wines\, who will talk about the Platypus family that lives nearby and show us her pictures.\nThen\, we’ll talk through the best ways to spot a platypus and how to not get tricked by other creatures;\nWe’ll practise our platy spotting skills with a walk around the area to identify the best platy spotting habitat; and\nWe’ll also net and look at the water bugs (if possible) to see what platypus food is in the area.\nBYO picnic lunch or purchase something from Pfeiffer Wines (check if you need to order a day or more before the event) to enjoy with like-minded people as we watch for platypus.\n\nBYO Picnic Lunch options\nFor those who prefer to have their lunch provided\, the winery can offer:\n– a grazing plate for four [@$30] which includes:\na selection of cheeses with dry biscuits\, olives and cabana.\n– or a Picnic Hamper for two [@$150] which includes:\nHouse Baked Baguette. DESCRIPTION:At about 1000m asl\, and offering scenic views of the Murray Valley\, Snowy Mountains\, and the Riverina\, the granite platform that make up Norths Lookout\, gives 180 degree views and a perfect spot for lunch. The walk is on fire trail and located in Woomagama NP\, where at this time of the year the wildflowers should be at their peak. The first half of the walk to Norths Lookout is uphill\, making the return trip to the cars at Tin Mines Campsite\, downhill\, but nothing crazy steep. SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Lockhart's Gap Crossover Walk
DESCRIPTION:This is one of our annual events and has proved to be popular with members as we follow the ridge line through some magnificent forests while being entertained by the resident lyrebirds. One group led by Bernadette will start from Lockhart’s Gap while the other group led by Ian will start from the Tallangatta Lookout. Lunch will be taken somewhere suitable on the track\, usually when both groups meet. \nAfter lunch car keys will be exchanged before both groups walk on to their respective destinations. \nAt the conclusion of the crossover both groups will gather at the Tallangatta Lookout for a shared afternoon tea where there is under cover seating and BBQ facilities. All walkers should have appropriate warm/wet weather gear. SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Morgan’s Caves\, Galore Hill Scenic Reserve
DESCRIPTION:Galore Hill Scenic Reserve (near Lockhart) covers approx 500 hectares of bushland and provides a thriving natural habitat for native flora (over 800 varieties of plants) and fauna. ( over 140 varieties of birds). The reserve rises 200m above the surrounding plains and from the summit gives an uninterrupted view of Kengal/The Rock to the east. On our walk we will follow the fire trail to the saddle. From there a walking track will take us past the lookout tower to the shallow caves that bushranger\, “Mad Dog Morgan”\, used to avoid authorities. We then return to the cars via the Summit Drive.
