SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Mount Stanley via Circular Creek

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Morgan’s Caves\, Galore Hill Scenic Reserve
DESCRIPTION:Galore Hill Scenic Reserve (near Lockhart) covers approx 500 hectares of bushland and provides a thriving natural habitat for native flora (over 800 varieties of plants) and fauna. ( over 140 varieties of birds). The reserve rises 200m above the surrounding plains and from the summit gives an uninterrupted view of Kengal/The Rock to the east. On our walk we will follow the fire trail to the saddle. From there a walking track will take us past the lookout tower to the shallow caves that bushranger\, “Mad Dog Morgan”\, used to avoid authorities. We then return to the cars via the Summit Drive. DESCRIPTION:This is a return hike featuring massive granite boulders\, snow gum forests and sweeping views on the Buffalo Plateau and ends at the rocky outcrop of Mollinson’s Galleries\, a series of huge boulders overlooking the Buffalo Valley and Lake Buffalo. The walk involves a 300m climb and descent and is gently undulating. There will be options to make side trips to Og\, Gog and Magog along the way. Because we are walking in an Alpine environment you will need to carry appropriate gear. SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Lockhart’s Gap Track Walk
DESCRIPTION:This is an out and back hike on the Lockhart’s Gap Track near Tallangatta\, starting at the Tallangatta Lookout. The first hour is a very steep\, thigh burning uphill climb on a fire maintenance road so you’ll need to be physically fit for the challenge! From the top of the climb the walking becomes a bit more cruisy but be warned there are still some very steep ups and downs to follow. Hike poles are recommended. This is a great hit out if you’re thinking of the Lockhart’s Gap Crossover Walk later in the year or maybe tackling Bogong. We’ll walk for a couple of hours on the track before taking a short break and then retracing our steps and gathering at the Lookout for a shared afternoon tea before heading our separate ways. DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nMount Tabletop is a distinctive flat plateau linked to the Great Dividing Range by a low ridge. Leaving from JB Plain\, we will\, follow the old fence line south across the plains. From here the route is marked. After crossing the snow plains and snow-gum woodland\, the route drops down to Tabletop Creek and then follows a long ridge gradually up the plateau. SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Mt Feathertop via the Razorback
DESCRIPTION:I’m having another go at a midweek walk along the Razorback after we rerouted due to white out conditions last time.  This is before school holidays so we should avoid those crowds too. \nThis is an iconic walk and therefore very popular.  I’m hoping to avoid the crowds by doing it on a Wednesday.\nThe Razorback is the most popular way to get to Mt Feathertop. The walk is a day of up and down with a steep climb to the final ascent but on a clear day it is well worth the effort.  The views from the top are stunning.\nWith 23kms and 900m height gain we will have an early start and a long day. You may even decide to stay overnight somewhere closer to the walk start near Mt Hotham. SUMMARY:Long-range Hawkweed Searching on the Bogong High Plains
DESCRIPTION:Hi everyone\,Following our week-long grid surveys during the summer\, we are planning on running a 3 day\, long-range survey for the state-prohibited Hawkweed.\n\n\n\n\n\nDates: 30th of March to the 1st of April.Recommended arrival on Sunday afternoon/evening (29th)Monday: 8:30am Meeting/Briefing.Aim to start the survey at 9am each day\, with a flexible finish time around 3pm.Departure: Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning (2nd).At this stage\, the plan is to base camp at Pretty Valley due to its proximity to areas of Mouse-Ear Hawkweed and also the potential to explore up into areas of Rocky Knobs for King Devil and Orange Hawkweed.Long-range surveys are a little different to the intensive line searches of 1-hectare grids that volunteers usually assist with. Long-range searches have been conducted in the past to explore and search across larger areas of the landscape\, around and beyond where computer modelling has placed formal grids.Long-range surveys are often carried out over several kilometres\, through a variety of terrain that may at times be steep\, densely vegetated and rocky\, requiring a good level of fitness and health.It’s important to note that this is a campout\, not an accommodation session.
