SUMMARY:2026 WULN AGM and Network Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Wodonga Urban Landcare Network’s Annual General Meeting and Network Gathering at our Baranduda Fields EcoHub. \nThis is an opportunity to reflect on the past year’s achievements\, hear about exciting projects and plans for the year ahead\, and connect with the people helping to care for and improve our local environment. \nWe will also be welcoming Albury City Council’s Leah Warburton – Urban Forest Officer and Leanne Hunichen – Supervisor Trees and Streetscapes to present on the newly adopted Urban Forest Strategy which charts a greener future for Albury. The strategy outlines the current challenges with regard to canopy cover in Albury and provides a guide to tree planting and detailed implementation plan as the city responds to climate change and ongoing urban growth\, setting a target for 30% urban tree canopy cover in Albury by 2050. \nAll WULN members\, supporters\, partner organisations and friends are welcome to attend\, as well as members of the community – you don’t need to be a WULN member. \nGroup coordinators will be asked to vote in the special meeting and AGM and should nominate a proxy if they are unable to attend. \nFollowing the AGM\, stay for a relaxed network gathering with plenty of time to catch up\, share ideas\, and connect with others who are passionate about creating a healthier\, more sustainable community. \nA light lunch will be provided. SUMMARY:Waterway Ecology Workshops – Managing Tall Vegetation
DESCRIPTION:Natural wetlands in southeastern Australia commonly include a component of Phragmites australis (Common Reed)\, Typha spp. (Cumbungi) or Juncus ingens (Giant Rush). These tall macrophytes provide important habitat and ecosystem functions. \nDetermining when management is appropriate and justified\, and the most effective methods to use in natural wetlands (where excavation is not an option) can be challenging. Many attempts to control these taxa have not been monitored\, limiting the ability to share learnings. \nJoin Fiona Sutton\, plant ecologist with Arthur Rylah Institute for Environmental Research\, for an in-depth workshop on managing vegetation in these waterways.
