SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - 3 huts and a Chalet
DESCRIPTION:This walk of roughly 7km starts and finishes at Wallace’s Hut carpark.  Wallace’s Hut is the oldest surviving cattlemen’s hut\, built in 1889 by the three Wallace brothers – Arthur\, William and Stewart.  We continue past the hut to the aqueduct\, turn right and then follow the grassy aqueduct track past the Rover Scout Chalet. The track here climbs gently to Cope Hut\, which was built by the Ski Club of Victoria in 1929 after the state experienced a surge of skiing in the 1920s. From Cope Hut the walking track follows a heath-filled valley back to the Wallaces Hut track and carpark. \nThe second walk is to Faithfuls Hut\, begins at the Buckety Plains campground.  It’s a short 1.5km return walk that involves a 95m descent/ascent. \n\nGrade 3 Medium\nLeader: Deb\nPhone: 0410047884 before 8pm\nParticipant numbers: Up to 10\nFinal booking date: Friday 8th November\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Ride YACKANDANDAH TO BEECHWORTH 64kms Return
DESCRIPTION:This ride begins in Yackandandah and follows the new bike track to Beechworth with some challenging ups and downs. There is an option to start near the roundabout on the Wodonga/Beechworth Road and thus avoid the uphill from Yack. (But then you won’t get the thrill of freewheeling back to Yack!).\nWe’ll lunch somewhere in Beechworth – maybe a picnic at Lake Sambell or lunch in one of the local cafes – then ride back to Yack and partake of some ‘electrolyte replacement therapy’ at the Star Hotel.\nSuitable for all bike types\, except maybe tricycles! \nPLEASE NOTE: Because I am overseas until November all bookings will need to be done by EMAIL direct to me – iantre@hotmail.com\nMobile phone bookings will not be available so don’t bother trying. \n\n\n\nGrade 3 Medium\nLeader: Ian Trevaskis\nPhone: 0425782983\n\n\nParticipant numbers:10\nFinal booking date: Thursday\, October 31st\nRisks: Other cyclists\, highway crossings\, motor vehicles\, snakes\, inclement weather.\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Munderoo logbook (Carboona Gap) > Lankeys Creek campsite/Hume and Hovell Track
DESCRIPTION:This walk offers a lovely mix of native bush\, expansive views and open grazing country\, and  is a lovely descent (so the H & H website says) of 430m from the Munderoo plateau down to the property “Clear Springs”. The Track goes through native bush and spectacular grass tree stands on Munderoo plateau\, with views to the Murray River and Victoria. It then enters open grazing country\, where it peters out\, but there are marker posts dotted through the paddocks (as long as cows haven’t knocked them down)  to follow. We cross the new bridge over Coppabella Creek and then follow Lankeys Creek through grazed bush to Lankeys Creek campsite\, one of the campsites used on the original expedition. \nI have not done this walk before and it will be my first “real grade 3 walk” after a lengthy time off tracks due to injury.  Please understand that it will not be a fast walk.  A car shuffle is required.  Approx 15km \n\nGrade 3 Medium\nLeader: Deb\nPhone: 0410047884 before 8pm\nParticipant numbers: Up to 10\nFinal booking date: Wednesday 30th October\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au\n\n

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Mt Loch and Mt Hotham
DESCRIPTION:Both of these walks start and finish at Loch Carpark. \nEven though Mt Loch\, 1887m\, is the 4th highest mountain in Victoria\, our walk starts at 1800m.  From Loch car park\, there is a 4km walk through alpine heath to the summit of Mount Loch\, where there are good views of the High Plains\, Mt Hotham and the rugged east face of Mt Feathertop. We will start by following the Australian Alpine Walking Track for 3.5 km to pole 60 and then follow a vehicle track north past the rocky basalt columns for 0.5 km. Climb to the summit along a track on the north western side of Mt Loch. Return by the same route. Approx 8km return 230m climb. \nBefore heading back down the mountain\, we will dump our packs at the cars and just take a drink bottle to the summit of Mt Hotham\, an easy 1\,2km stroll\, 80m climb from Loch Carpark. \n\nGrade 2 Easy-Medium\nLeader: Deb\nPhone: 0410047884 before 8pm\nParticipant numbers: Up to 10\nFinal booking date: Wednesday 27th November.\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au\n\n

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Mt Buffalo short and sharp
DESCRIPTION:There are a number of very short walks on Mt Buffalo that give great views.  We often pass them by in favour of bigger walks. Whilst they are all fairly steep\, they are short and I’m in no rush. Participants can chose to do all or some of the walks on offer. \n\nLake View: 2km. Great views of Lake Catani.  Mostly on footpad with a short Rocky bit at the top.\nThe Horn: 1km. 360degree views. A lot of steps with a Rocky part that includes a handrail.\nThe Monolith. 2km. Great views and some history. Narrow track and some steps near the top.\nThe Old Galleries. 1km. Walking through a rocky wonderland.\nCathedral/ Hump. 2km. Walking past spectacular rock formations and ending with a view. The top part is a scramble but isn’t compulsory.\nRollasens Falls or Eurobin Falls.  If people feel like a short walk on the way down we can add one or both of these.\n\nI’m hoping for a sunny September day but if the weather isn’t good I’ll postpone for another day. \nplease phone me to book in. \n\n\n\nGrade 3 Medium\nLeader: Bernadette\nPhone: 0419241687\nParticipant numbers:12\nFinal booking date: TUESDAY Sep 10th\nSome short rocky scrambles\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Spring into Tuesday
DESCRIPTION:These walks can’t be called Winter walks anymore but this one is a good way to build some more fitness ready for the mountains. \nThis walk will begin in late morning and go over lunch time. We will explore more of Nail Can Hill including Bakes Trail\, The Lookout (where we will have lunch) and Reedy Dam.  I was going to call it a figure 8 walk but it’s more like a double sided lollipop with us passing by our cars around the half way point. It may be tempting to stop at this point but the best bits are yet to come. \nIt’s all on well formed trails with some short  steep pinches and lots of undulations. \nlength 7.7km height gain 350m \n\nGrade 3 Medium\nLeader: Bernadette\nPhone: 0419241687\nParticipant numbers:12\nFinal booking date: Sun Sep 1st\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Mt Beauty Survey Track and Pole Track
DESCRIPTION:This walk takes us on some of the tracks through the forest around Mt Beauty and gives us views up to the snow-covered mountains. We then cross the road and head back down the Pole Track\, passing some of the oddly named mountain bike trails. We continue on down towards the Gorge Walk that leads to the river. There are a few options along the way and we will stop somewhere with a nice outlook for lunch! Total length about 12 km\, all on tracks\, pace will be slowish. \nPlease phone me AFTER 11 August to book in for this walk because I cannot confirm it before then. SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Tuesday winter wander
DESCRIPTION:Trying to get fit\, stay fit in Winter. Look out for these short midweek walks that include hills that are designed to get those muscles ready for Spring. \nToday’s walk is Norris Hill and we will walk in the early afternoon. \nThis walk in Lavington certainly starts with a bang but the climb is short and after that it’s gently undulating.   It’s only 5kms so it won’t take up your whole day. \nIf you usually use poles they will be very useful for the first part as the track can be gravelly and slippery\, after that it’s a lovely  bush track followed by a flat well formed pathway. \nUnless I know you well as a walker please phone me to discuss this walk. \n\nGrade 3 Medium\nLeader: Bernadette\nPhone: 0419241687\nParticipant numbers:12\nFinal booking date: Saturday June 22nd\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club – Shortest day sunset walk
DESCRIPTION:On Friday June 21st we celebrate the shortest day of the year.  It happens that it’s also a full moon that evening. \nTo celebrate this you are invited to walk the Eastern Hill circuit.  You will need to be in East Albury by 3.30pm to do this walk. \nWhen we get to a scenic spot on the hill we will stop to enjoy the views and the sunset.  Bring a warm drink\, a snack or another drink that warms you up.  A seat or rug and warm clothing will also be needed. \nAfter watching the sun set  there is a short walk to the cars in the full moon on a wide track\,  but bring a torch in case the moon is obscured. \nThere are a few steep pinches but these should keep us warm.  The remainder of the 7km walk is flat or undulating. \nThe terrain ranges from wide tracks to footpads and some footpaths to link the tracks. \nThis walk will not go ahead in rainy weather. \n\n\n\nGrade 3 Medium\nLeader: Bernadette\nPhone: 0419241687\nParticipant numbers:12\nFinal booking date: Wednesday 19th June by 5pm.\nA few road crossings in daylight. SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Wahgunyah to Lake Moodemere return
DESCRIPTION:Welcome winter with a walk exploring a different section of the mighty Murray. From Wahgunyah we cross dry Sunday Creek to trace the river down stream through its flood plain to Lake Moodemere. There are many points of interest including magnificent old river red gums ( Eucalyptus Camaldulensis) and bird life. The walk will be approximately 13/16 kms depending on short diversions to see things. Walking surfaces include sealed cycle/bike track\, dirt vehicle roads and rough 4×4 bush tracks. As we are on the flood plain there are no hills so easy walking but the length puts it into the medium category. If there is significant rain prior it could be muddy. \n\n\n\nGrade 2 Easy-Medium\nLeader: Ira\nPhone: 0429059376\nAlwyn\nParticipant numbers:16\nFinal booking date: Wednesday May 29. Please phone before 8pm.\nRisks: Additional specific risks are other track users\, falling limbs from trees\, high riverbanks.\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Buffalo Bits
DESCRIPTION:These are four separate walks that give an idea of the variety on Mt Buffalo.  It is possible to sit out any of the walks if you’d like as they are separate and three begin at pleasant picnic areas.  I will decide on  the departure time and order of the walk according to the weather.  The final decisions will be  made on the Wednesday prior to the walks. \nThe Gorge is the best known of these walks and is used by many visitors to the area. It is 2.5km and has interpretive signs telling of some history the area through the eyes of Guide Alice.   It also shows the grandeur of this magnificent gorge.  There is a little up and down on this walk but the path and steps are very well formed \nThe walk to View Point starts at Lake Catani and is 4km return.  This walk ends with stunning views down to the valley below. The track is narrow and sometimes a little rocky.  There is a gentle climb but the end involves very short steep rock steps.  If it’s hot the lake is a great place for a dip before\, after or instead of the walk. \nRollasons Falls is a lovely walk. As you approach the falls it is rocky but you don’t need to go all the way to see good views if you aren’t comfortable.  It is 4km return and has two viewpoints of this lovely waterfall.  The first 2km go down and then…you guessed it\, you go up to get back.  There’s also opportunity to get wet here if you are hot. \nLake View walk is 2kms and quite a  steep climb. The end is on a smooth rock face and you are rewarded with great views down to the lake and across the Alps. \nYou can opt to do all of the walks or some of them depending on your whim on the day. For this reason it suits beginners and experienced walkers. \nUnless you are well known to me as a walker please ring to discuss this walk with me if you are interested.  If you leave a message I will return your call as soon as I can. \n\nGrade 3 Medium\nLeader: Bernadette\nPhone: 0419241687\nParticipant numbers:12\nFinal booking date: Wed 17/4\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au
