SUMMARY:2026 WULN AGM and Network Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Wodonga Urban Landcare Network’s Annual General Meeting and Network Gathering at our Baranduda Fields EcoHub. \nThis is an opportunity to reflect on the past year’s achievements\, hear about exciting projects and plans for the year ahead\, and connect with the people helping to care for and improve our local environment. \nWe will also be welcoming Albury City Council’s Leah Warburton – Urban Forest Officer and Leanne Hunichen – Supervisor Trees and Streetscapes to present on the newly adopted Urban Forest Strategy which charts a greener future for Albury. The strategy outlines the current challenges with regard to canopy cover in Albury and provides a guide to tree planting and detailed implementation plan as the city responds to climate change and ongoing urban growth\, setting a target for 30% urban tree canopy cover in Albury by 2050. \nAll WULN members\, supporters\, partner organisations and friends are welcome to attend\, as well as members of the community – you don’t need to be a WULN member. \nGroup coordinators will be asked to vote in the special meeting and AGM and should nominate a proxy if they are unable to attend. \nFollowing the AGM\, stay for a relaxed network gathering with plenty of time to catch up\, share ideas\, and connect with others who are passionate about creating a healthier\, more sustainable community. \nA light lunch will be provided. For catering purposes\, please register if you plan to attend. \nWe look forward to celebrating another year of community-driven environmental action with you. 🌿

SUMMARY:Waterway Ecology Workshops – Managing Tall Vegetation
DESCRIPTION:Natural wetlands in southeastern Australia commonly include a component of Phragmites australis (Common Reed)\, Typha spp. (Cumbungi) or Juncus ingens (Giant Rush). These tall macrophytes provide important habitat and ecosystem functions. \nDetermining when management is appropriate and justified\, and the most effective methods to use in natural wetlands (where excavation is not an option) can be challenging. Many attempts to control these taxa have not been monitored\, limiting the ability to share learnings. \nJoin Fiona Sutton\, plant ecologist with Arthur Rylah Institute for Environmental Research\, for an in-depth workshop on managing vegetation in these waterways. Fiona and her team have undertaken a literature review and held interviews and workshops with waterway managers and ecologists to synthesise the latest knowledge regarding the biology\, ecology and management of these taxa. \nWhen: Wednesday 30 September\nPublic session (eg members of local Landcare groups\, neighbouring landholders etc) – 1.30pm to 5pm\nWhere: Wodonga Landcare Ecohub at Baranduda Fields \n  \nPlease register at events.humanitix.com/baranduda-manage-tall-marsh-workshops \nThese free public and waterways managers’ workshops are hosted in partnership between North East CMA\, Wodonga Urban Landcare Network\, Wangaratta Landcare and Sustainability Inc and Arthur Rylah Institute.

SUMMARY:BushBank Walk & Talk: Restoration in Wooragee
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a morning out at a local BushBank restoration project near you!\nJoin us for a ‘Walk and Talk’ at a private property in Wooragee to learn how we’re transforming landscapes and supporting biodiversity on private land. You’ll hear directly from Cassina Environmental\, project partners & local contractors and see the revegetation efforts firsthand. \nWhat is BushBank? \nThe Victorian Government’s $77 million BushBank Program is restoring more than 20\,000 hectares of land across Victoria to create healthy wildlife habitat and capture carbon. The majority of work is taking place on private land through partnerships with private landowners. \nIt’s the most ambitious environmental restoration program in Victoria’s history. \nAbout the project \nThis Wooragee property\, just out of Beechworth\, has been a labour of love for the landowners for over a decade. Since 2011\, they’ve been revegetating the site and reducing grazing to make their land more hospitable to species like the critically endangered Swift Parrot and Regent Honeyeater. In 2025\, they applied for the BushBank program to give a boost to their efforts to restore the 59 hectare block. \nThis year\, the site underwent large-scale direct seeding and supplementary planting\, delivered in partnership with Cassinia and co-funded by Greenfleet. The land will be restored primarily to Valley Grassy Forest and Grassy Dry Forest and protected by a Trust for Nature conservation covenant. \nIf you’re a member of the local community\, a landowner interested in boosting biodiversity on your property or simply passionate about our wildlife\, we invite you to join us at this Walk & Talk where you’ll: \n\nWitness successful revegetation models in action\nUnderstand the vital conservation work happening in your local region\nFind out how you can take action on your property to make a difference\nExplore opportunities to partner with BushBank for a project of your own\n\nNote: Attendance at this event is limited to 25 people. \nThis event is hosted by Cassinia Environmental\, the major delivery partner for the BushBank program – Private Land Stream and Wooragee Landcare Group Inc\, and is part of the Spring into Bushbank! event series. \nFor more information about BushBank and the full event schedule\, visit https://cassinia.com/bushbank.
