DESCRIPTION:We’re visiting a special urban reserve to admire the spring wildflowers and the pollinator insects that visit them. \nJack Perry Reserve is an unassuming pocket of bushland\, right alongside housing and industrial development of White Box Rise. It is home to an impressive diversity of local native plants. Spring is an exciting time here\, with plants in flower and a busy cast of visitors\, including bees\, butterflies and other pollinators. We’ll chat about local native plants\, and how they interact with their many visitors. \nIf you would like to know more about local wildflowers\, or local insects\, this is a walk for you! \nThe reserve is environmental land within the Whitebox Rise Estate and links to nearby Bears Hill\, part of the Wodonga Retained Environment Network — land managed for people\, wildlife and the environment. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever had that magical moment of spotting a platypus in the wild? \nJoin us at this event to learn where to look for\, and how spot\, platypus in the wild for this great #CitizenScience project\, a partnership with ACF\, UNSW\, Centre for Ecosystem Science\, and Platypus Conservation Initiative. \nACF-AWR is excited to be hosting events again in 2026 for the wonderful citizen science platy-project. \nJoin us and help researchers understand more about this elusive animal and how we can better protect it. \nWhen: 12 September\, 10:30 am \nWhere: Pfeiffer Wines\, 167 Distillery Rd.\, Wahgunyah\, Victoria \nWhat we’ll be doing: \n\nWelcome from our winery host\, Kylie\nAn introductory talk from Anne\, Pfeiffer Wines\, who will talk about the Platypus family that lives nearby and show us her pictures.\nThen\, we’ll talk through the best ways to spot a platypus and how to not get tricked by other creatures;\nWe’ll practise our platy spotting skills with a walk around the area to identify the best platy spotting habitat; and\nWe’ll also net and look at the water bugs (if possible) to see what platypus food is in the area.\nBYO picnic lunch or purchase something from Pfeiffer Wines (check if you need to order a day or more before the event) to enjoy with like-minded people as we watch for platypus.\n\nBYO Picnic Lunch options\nFor those who prefer to have their lunch provided\, the winery can offer:\n– a grazing plate for four [@$30] which includes:\na selection of cheeses with dry biscuits\, olives and cabana.\n– or a Picnic Hamper for two [@$150] which includes:\nHouse Baked Baguette. Spiced Eggplant\, Milawa Cheese\, Smoked Trout Mousse\nand Gooramadda Olives. Chicken Terrine and Peach Chutney. The creek and surrounding hills have historically been impacted land clearing and now face increasing pressure from residential development and climate change which has altered natural flow patterns and elevated runoff. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever had that magical moment of spotting a platypus in the wild? \nJoin us at this event to learn where to look for\, and how spot\, platypus in the wild for this great #CitizenScience project\, a partnership with ACF\, UNSW\, Centre for Ecosystem Science\, and Platypus Conservation Initiative. \n  \nACF-AWR is excited to be hosting events again in 2026 for the wonderful citizen science platy-project. \nJoin us and help researchers understand more about this elusive animal and how we can better protect it. \nWhen: 5 September\, 4 – 6 pm \nWhere: Willow Park\, Car Park\, Pearce Street\, Wodonga\, VIC. \nWhat we’ll be doing: \n\nWe’ll talk through the best ways to spot a platypus and how to not get tricked by other creatures;\nWe’ll practise our platy spotting skills with a walk around the creek to identify the best platy spotting habitat; and\nWe’ll also net and look at the water bugs to see what platypus food is in the area.\n\nYou may want to then invest time to watch and wait for a platypus to reveal itself at the end of the event.  We’ve been watching platypus in the area recently. \nWe can’t promise you will see a platypus\, but you’ll be well equipped to keep looking for platypus at your nearest river or creek to help researchers understand more about this incredible creature and help prevent further declines in their numbers. \nJoin us at our upcoming platy-project event!   \nRSVP as soon as possible so you don’t miss out.  Places are limited to ensure the event is safe and the best experience for all of us.
