DESCRIPTION:Join Parklands for an adventure on the water! We will be paddling in canoes along the Murray River\, with stops for walk n’ talks! \nThese Park Explorer events are a new monthly series of Ranger-led experiences that will take you off the usual tracks to learn of the work behind the scenes and about the new trails nearing completion.\n\nParklands Albury Wodonga maintains over 176 km of nature trails together with community and partner organisations with no funds directly supporting this.\n\nThe funds raised from our monthly Park Explorer experiences will go towards keeping these trails open and well-maintained including contracting a local disability supported employee business to mow track heads and others to mow in remoter areas.\n\nFor the October event\, participants will meet at the Noreuil Park canoe ramp before being transported to Doctors Point. From here\, you will paddle downstream\, stopping off at sites on Turtle and Browns Islands to check out current works and future plans. You will also learn about the biodiversity conservation achievements over the past two decades in these areas. You will end the tour back at Noreuil Park. \nCost: $50 per person. \nWhen: 9:00 am til around 1:00 pm. \nWhere: Meet at the Noreuil Park canoe ramp. \nWhat is supplied: Canoe hire including life jacket and morning tea. SUMMARY:Films to inspire climate action with guest speaker Paul Sinclair\, ACF Campaign Director and Deputy CEO
DESCRIPTION:We are feeling a bit overwhelmed with the news lately and we expect you may be feeling that also. \nAs Joan Baez famously stated – Action is the antidote to despair – so we’re always looking for the most impactful ways we can act and support you to act also. \nWe do feel we are all best acting inside our sphere of influence by acting locally while thinking globally.  However\, sometimes\, we need to extend our range a little.  This is one of those times. \nWe wrote to you on 14 September about the importance of acting to save Scott Reef that is potentially impacted by the proposed Browse Basin development as part of Woodside’s North West Shelf extension and expansion.  We included in that email the ABC News article by Rhiannon Shine from 13 September 2025 titled North West Shelf extension comes at critical juncture in Australia’s climate conversation.  We are\, indeed\, at a critical juncture.  Your ACF-AWR has continued to monitor this situation and we want to raise further awareness and inspire you to act also.  So\, we’re holding an event and we hope you can join us: \nWhere: Hybrid event: CD Blake Lecture Theatre\, Building 751 (see map)\, Charles Sturt University\, Elizabeth Mitchell Drive/Milawa Drive\, Thurgoona\, NSW\, 2640 or online (RSVP to receive the link to join)\nWhen: Saturday 25 October\, 2 – 4 pm\nWhat: Two compelling short films – Dr Richard Denniss (30 mins) and Corals’ Last Stand (38 mins) \nDr Richard Denniss is a prominent economist and Executive Director of the Australia Institute.  In this short (30 min) film\, he presents our Federal Government with a reality check in a candid address before the Federal Senate Environment Committee. \nCorals’ Last Stand is a multi-award-winning documentary about Scott Reef\, one of our last ancient interconnected coral ecosystems located nearly 300km from the WA north-west coast\, which has recently come under serious threat from Woodside Energy’s Gas expansion this year. \nWe are also thrilled to have Paul Sinclair\, ACF Campaign Director and Deputy CEO join us for a follow-up discussion. \nTea and coffee will be available for those attending the face-to-face event. \nRSVP as soon as possible so you don’t miss securing your seat. \nPlease email acf.awr@gmail.com if you are attending in person for catering purposes. \nWe look forward to seeing you soon. \nBart\, Ali\, Jonathon and your ACF-AWR team.

SUMMARY:Wholistic Farm Day
DESCRIPTION:Join stock handler Tahlia Moore and permaculturalist Natasha Stafford for in insightful and practical day putting wholistic thinking into practice on your farm. \nNatasha will introduce the concept of land planning from a whole systems point of view. We will take the theory out to the land to discover simple and useful ways to manage your land effectively. \nTahlia will explain all the benefits of a wholistic approach to animal handling. A live demonstration and discussion will see you moving towards successfully working with your stock. \nThis is an on farm session. Please come prepared for unpredictable weather and to traverse hilly terrain. \nThe ticket price includes morning tea and lunch. \nThis event is being held in the Indigo Valley. Exact location will be provided on booking. \n  \nWhole systems land management \nPermaculture is a concept renowned around the word for successfully taking cues from the natural world in its approach to creating truly productive and sustainable landscapes. We are realising farming needs to recognise soil health\, rejuvenation of native species and capture of natural resources like water and soil. But how to go about it? By seeing the whole picture offered by permaculture we can spend time and resources for the greatest benefit. This session helps to prioritise action and most of all\, enables farmers to develop a deeper understanding of their land. \nSuccessful stock handling \nThis will be an informative session with a focus on achieving confident\, calm flow in all facets of stock handling which translates into real dollar value for producers in terms of weight gain\, feed utilisation and ease of management. Whether you are a large scale producer or hobby farmer just looking to start out\, having the right mindset will translate directly into the wellbeing and productivity of your animals. This success then flows on to create a ‘whole management’ approach and appreciation of the animal and how they exist in the landscape. \nTahlia Moore \nTahlia has been working in the livestock industry for fifteen years and is currently the operations manager on a large scale pasture-raised poultry operation in the Riverina\, NSW. \nShe has a strong cattle background\, mostly in the Northern pastoral industry. She has experience with a wide range of farm animals\, most recently working dogs. \nOver the years\, Tahlia has developed a great passion for working with both people and livestock to make animal handling enjoyable for all involved. Through her years of hands-on experience and being involved in various leadership roles\, Tahlia has developed a keen interest in teaching others. \nTahlia conducts herself\, her stock work and her teaching in a relaxed\, practical manner with a touch of good humour. \nTahlia is a keen proponent of wholistic landscape management\, which extends well into stock management. Tahlia is a dedicated life long learner and recognises how important it is to share knowledge\, and also to challenge paradigms. \nNatasha Stafford \nNatasha has been mesmerised by the natural world from a young age leading her to follow the path of wholistic teaching and design. \nShe is a fully qualified designer and teacher of permaculture and holds two Permaculture Design Certificates. Natasha has also completed Allan Savory’s Holistic Management Foundation course\, and studied at the Mulloon Institute in water management. \nNatasha has developed an engaging and hands on approach to learning from the experience of home educating her six children over the course of twenty years. She has also taught the Certificate III in Permaculture at the National Environment Centre. \nNatasha has completed a wide variety of permaculture designs\, from rural acres to suburban backyards in both tropical and temperate settings and has received an overwhelmingly positive response to her ideas and her service.
