SUMMARY:FoWP Cultural Exchange Information Night
DESCRIPTION:Can you imagine…. \n… being told that unless you can prove your citizenship in Australia to have been established prior 1958\, you would be classified as an illegal immigrant? \n… having to live with your family under canvas for years to come in squalid conditions\, along with thousands of other people? \n… eventually to be given a choice – to either stay in a familiar community with a support network you know\, or to live in a foreign country\, alien to your own language and culture? \nRadha Guragai is a survivor of just such an ethnic cleansing process. \nRadha\, one of the Bhutanese community leaders of Wodonga\, will share with us the story of his people\, the journey which began in Bhutan where they were banished from their native land\, to be held for years in a refugee camp in Nepal\, and finally given approval to re-settle in Australia\, one of a few countries that would accept their resettlement. \nThis event is proudly sponsored by City of Wodonga. \nDon’t miss out on this cultural exchange information night and reserve your seat as soon as possible. \nAdmission $5pp – with buffet meal $20pp                    \nBookings are essential \nFeel free to call Bart on 0419 390 329 for more information.

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Mount Buffalo Chalet to Mackey's Lookout
DESCRIPTION:The plan is to park at the Chalet carpark and commence the walk from there. We follow the Big Walk Walking Track from the Mount Buffalo Chalet down to Mackey’s Lookout for lunch. Our descent from the Mount Buffalo Chalet at 1342 elevation to Mackeys Lookout at 920 m elevation will take in some of the best bits of the Big Walk. \nAlong the way\, we can take time to visit the Reeds Lookout. This walk is approximately 12 kms return. \nOn our return\, we can take in the sights of the  Chalet and the Gorge Lookouts. Bring a cuppa\, snacks\, and lunch. Plus\, wet weather gear and extra warm clothing to wear after the walk. \nPart of this walk (especially at Mackey’s Lookout) is across sloping granite. Good boots are required to prevent slipping. Some of the lookouts have huge drops\, but they are fenced. The track and weather conditions on the day may result in a change to the planned walk. \nThe return is mostly uphill\, but it is mostly on good track and on long switch-backs rather than steep uphill climbs. There are a couple of sections of rock-stairs. \n\nGrade 3 Medium\nLeader: Cindy Pickering\nPhone: 0410425335\nParticipant numbers:8\nFinal booking date: 23/11/2022\nKey risks and hazards: uneven and slippery surfaces\, cold/wet/windy conditions\, or exposure to sun that may result in sunburn. For more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Buffalo Bits
DESCRIPTION:These are four separate walks that give an idea of the variety on Mt Buffalo.  It is possible to sit out any of the walks if you’d like as they are separate and three begin at pleasant picnic areas.  I will decide on the departure time and order of the walk according to the weather.  The final decisions are made on the Wednesday prior to the walks. \nThe Gorge is the best known of these walks and is used by many visitors to the area. It is 2.5km and has interpretive signs telling of some history the area through the eyes of Guide Alice.   It also shows the grandeur of this magnificent gorge.  There is a little up and down on this walk but the path and steps are very well formed \nThe walk to View Point starts at Lake Catani and is 4km return.  This walk ends with stunning views down to the valley below. The track is narrow and sometimes a little rocky.  There is a gentle climb but the end involves very short steep rock steps.  If it’s hot the lake is a great place for a dip before\, after or instead of the walk. \nRollasons Falls is a lovely walk. As you approach the falls it is rocky but you don’t need to go all the way to see good views if you aren’t comfortable.  It is 4km return and has two viewpoints of this lovely waterfall.  The first 2km go down and then…you guessed it\, you go up to get back.  There’s also opportunity to get wet here if you are hot. \nLake View walk is 2kms and quite a  steep climb. The end is on a smooth rock face and you are rewarded with great views down to the lake and across the Alps. \nYou can opt to do all of the walks or some of them depending on your whim on the day. For this reason it suits beginners and experienced walkers. \nUnless you are well known to me as a walker please ring to discuss this walk with me if you are interested.  If you leave a message I will return your call as soon as I can. \n\nUngraded\nLeader: Bernadette\nPhone: 0419241687\nParticipant numbers:12\nFinal booking date: Wednesday 16th Nov by 8pm\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au
