SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Falls Creek: Frying Pan Spur
DESCRIPTION:Frying Pan Spur\, at the northern end of Falls Creek\, provides extensive views over the area and the upper Kiewa valley. On this walk\, we will take one of the easier access routes. Starting from Howman’s Gap\, we take the Packhorse Track to Falls Creek. This is a delightful track that winds through forest and past Falls Creek Falls. Once in the village\, we take the staircase (about 200 steps!) up past the ‘Bogong Moth’ water tank and keep climbing almost to Pretty Valley road. We follow a path running parallel with the road under the Eagle chairlift and keep heading to the point known as the Summit\, from where it is a short distance to the trig point on Frying Pan Spur. We return to the village down the Home and Away Trail and then back to the start along Packhorse Track. Total distance is about 14 km\, nearly all on shared foot/mountain bike tracks. There are some steep parts and it is a bit rocky in places. Walking poles recommended if you use them\, and you will need to be prepared for changeable Alpine weather. This walk is not suitable for beginners. \nIf you are interested coming on this walk\, please ring me to discuss it. Bookings are NOT ACCEPTED by email or SMS. \n\nGrade 3 Medium\nLeader: Eileen Clark\nPhone: 0412 042 195\nParticipant numbers:8\nFinal booking date: Wednesday 28 February 2024\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Beginners' Overnighter
DESCRIPTION:This is the perfect walk for those who have not yet experienced a night camping on the High Plains. The walk is an easy 6kms out to the yards\, all on track and is eminently suitable for FIRST TIME overnighters. (Experienced overnighters are also most welcome to come along and join in the fun and frivolity!) \nThe walk follows the Australian Alps Walking Track from Cope Hut\, passes Mount Cope and the recently refurbished Cope Saddle Hut. The track then follows a maintenance track beside the viaduct to the huts. It takes about two hours of leisurely walking over mainly flat ground.\nThere are plenty of flat grassy spots to pitch your tent\, an ample water supply nearby and a very cosy hut where we can cook our meals\, socialise and sit by the open fire.\nIf it’s hot we’ll take a walk on Saturday afternoon to the “secret waterfall” where there is a beaut swimming hole to cool off in. \nIf you are worried that you may not be properly equipped\, remember you can hire BBC gear from Adventure Camping in Albury\, or we can rustle up whatever you may need. \nI suggest you book early to avoid disappointment. \n\n\n\nGrade 2 Easy-Medium\nLeader: Ian Trevaskis\nPhone: 0425782983\nParticipant numbers:12\nFinal booking date: Sunday\, February 4th\n\n\n\n\nRisks: snakes\, heat stress\, storms\,\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - JB Plain car camp
DESCRIPTION:This is a weekend that can suit nearly everyone.  Near Dinner Plain\,  it is only about 200 m from the car park to the JB Plain campsites. That means you can bring real food and luxury items. (Banana lounges have been seen popping up and the odd bottle of wine has been spotted on previous JB weekends.)  There is a toilet so no trowels required. \nThe plan for the weekend is pretty flexible and can as simple as reading a book\, chatting\, walking in for an coffee and eating.  We usually have a fire at night to relax by. \nLast year we walked up Mt Higinnbotham for sunset on Friday night\, had the choice of an easy or moderate walk on Saturday and did a 7km walk up Mt Loch on Sunday. \nThe hotel sells pizzas so most of us opted for take away on Saturday night. \nIf you’re not into camping you could even book accommodation in Dinner Plain and join us for most of the time. \n\n\n\nLeader: Bernadette\nPhone: 0419241687\nFinal booking date: Wednesday Jan 10th\nSome camp sites are under trees but this can be avoided.\nFor more information and updates about BBC activities\, check www.borderbushwalkingclub.com.au\n\n\n\n
