SUMMARY:MONTHLY REPAIR CAFE HASTINGS WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION:The Repair Cafe is a place where skilled volunteers fix\, repair and mend household & personal items for reuse or repurpose. This helps pass on special skills and keeps the circular economy going in the community and items out of landfill. We are a not-for-profit community organisation which relies on kind donations from the community to also keep us going. Kids activities and light refreshments are available as part of the Repair Cafe services. We are currently running just one session per month (usually on the third Sunday of each month) at The Hastings Community Hub. We have a great group of volunteers but are also seeking more volunteers to assist in all areas of operating the Repair Cafe (on site and behind the scenes) as our visitor numbers grow. Training provided. Please inquire if interested in helping out or attending one of our next repair sessions – we would love to meet you!

SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Buffalo Bits
DESCRIPTION:These are four separate walks that give an idea of the variety on Mt Buffalo.  It is possible to sit out any of the walks if you’d like as they are separate and three begin at pleasant picnic areas.  I will decide on  the departure time and order of the walk according to the weather.  The final decisions will be  made on the Wednesday prior to the walks. \nThe Gorge is the best known of these walks and is used by many visitors to the area. It is 2.5km and has interpretive signs telling of some history the area through the eyes of Guide Alice.   It also shows the grandeur of this magnificent gorge.  There is a little up and down on this walk but the path and steps are very well formed \nThe walk to View Point starts at Lake Catani and is 4km return.  This walk ends with stunning views down to the valley below. The track is narrow and sometimes a little rocky.  There is a gentle climb but the end involves very short steep rock steps.  If it’s hot the lake is a great place for a dip before\, after or instead of the walk. \nRollasons Falls is a lovely walk. As you approach the falls it is rocky but you don’t need to go all the way to see good views if you aren’t comfortable.  It is 4km return and has two viewpoints of this lovely waterfall.  The first 2km go down and then…you guessed it\, you go up to get back.  There’s also opportunity to get wet here if you are hot. \nLake View walk is 2kms and quite a  steep climb. The end is on a smooth rock face and you are rewarded with great views down to the lake and across the Alps. \nYou can opt to do all of the walks or some of them depending on your whim on the day. DESCRIPTION:This walk takes us on the Survey Track in Mt Beauty\, an old route that was ‘rediscovered’ after the 2003 bushfires. We walk through timbered gullies with views up to Mt Bogong\, cross the road at Cranky Charlie and head back towards the town before heading down to where the West Kiewa river flows through a gorge. Hopefully some of the local trees will still be in their autumn colour. This walk is all on tracks\, a few ups and downs but nothing too steep. DESCRIPTION:Wild Horse Creek is on Track 107 about 10kms from the carpark at Watchbed Creek\, where this walk begins. We will initially follow a management track before veering off and following the pole line and Kelly Track to Fitzgeralds and Kelly Hut. This part of the walk is fairly flat and has great views. At Kelly Hut we join Track 107 and descend to Wild Horse Creek\, where we will have lunch. After the climb back up to Kelly Hut we will make the return trip back to the cars via the Aquaduct Track but this will depend on a number of factors including the weather. DESCRIPTION:This ride will start from the BBQ/Picnic Area overlooking the river at Porepunkah and across the way from the Porepunkah Pub. If you arrive early\, you can grab a coffee from the Rail Trail Cafe.\nWe’ll follow the rail trail through Bright to link up with the ‘Great Valley Trail’ to finish at Harrietville where we’ll have lunch beside the river. There are cafes and the pub nearby to grab a bite to eat or bring your own lunch.\nThere is an elevation gain of 124m between Germantown and Harrietville and it’s about 200m elevation gain in total between Bright and Harrietville which means it’s all downhill on the way back. We might pop into the Punkah Pub for a coldie when we get back.\nThe trail is suitable for hybrids and road bikes. In conjunction with the Birds of Australia Storybox exhibition the LibraryMuseum is celebrating our local birdlife with a community-based exhibition that features your photography of local birds. The exhibition is taking submissions from residents within a 50km radius of Albury. \nVisitors to the exhibition will be able to vote for their choice of winning entry. \nAll participants are invited to the launch event on Saturday 13 April\, where prizes will be awarded in following categories: best photo taken by entrant under 18\, best overall photo\, best photo of a threatened species and best “in motion” action shot. We are also very grateful for the support of Gardens for Wildlife Albury Wodonga who have sponsored a special prize category “Best photograph taken in a residential garden”\, the winner of this category will receive a $50 Peard’s Wodonga voucher. BirdLife Australia are also proud to sponsor a prize for “best photo of a bird on a farm within 100km of Albury”\, the winner of this category will receive a $100 gift voucher from Our Native Garden Nursery and receive a ‘Birds on Farms – Bird Nerd Resource Pack’\, full of helpful bird identification information. \nThe launch event will also include a presentation from BirdLife Australia who will share with us their birds on farms work and how this is contributing to the protection of local species. SUMMARY:Border Bushwalking Club - Introduction to the High Plains
DESCRIPTION:This is a set of three short walks that will provide an introduction to the sights and heritage of the Bogong High Plains around Falls Creek. First stop will be at the entry to Falls Creek from where we will take a short walk (500 m) along a path to Falls Creek Falls.  Next we will climb Roper’s Lookout\, a rocky outcrop that gives a good view over the surrounding country. This walk is about 4 km in total. It starts off flat and then there is a bit of a climb\, including steps\, to the summit. Then it’s back in the cars for the drive to Wallace’s Hut\, the oldest hut on the High Plains. After exploring the hut and learning a little of its history\, we will do a loop walk around the Wallace Heritage Trail and see some of the other features of this fascinating area. This walk is 5 km long\, all on footpaths. \nYou can choose to do one\, two or all three of the walks. Pace will be easy. You will need to be prepared for the changeable Alpine weather with a spare sweater and good rain jacket\, and with shorts or lightweight trousers NOT jeans. Boots are not necessary but enclosed shoes with good grip are essential. I can provide more information when you book in. \nThe walk is designed for beginners and those who do not know Falls Creek well\, but of course everyone is welcome.
