SUMMARY:ACF Sydney online screening of 'Corals' Last Stand' film
DESCRIPTION:As you are probably aware\, the new federal Environment Minister\, Murray Watt\, has recently approved an extension of the Woodside gas production facility near Karratha in Western Australia for 40 years\, until 2070. This is an appalling decision but our attention now needs to turn to stopping Woodside’s proposal to drill for gas in the Browse Basin near Scott Reef. If we can do that\, we will significantly reduce the supply of gas to the Karratha facility. \nScott Reef is a truly magical place\, home to a wide variety of marine life including pygmy blue whales and green turtles.  And it will be under serious threat if drilling at Browse Basin goes ahead. Corals’ Last Stand is a beautiful film about Scott Reef and how important it is that it be protected. \nACF AWR\, ACF GWS and other groups are hoping that the film will help build a movement in the communities of Greater Western Sydney\, and in other places across Australia\, in support of effective nature protection and an end to approving new and expanded fossil fuel projects. \nOn Monday 28 July at 7.30pm\, ACF Greater Western Sydney Community Group is hosting an online screening of the film Corals’ Last Stand.  ACF AWR and other groups will also be participating in this screening. We hope you will be able to join us for this wonderful film. \nPlease register here.

SUMMARY:Banking on Trees Community Planting Morning
DESCRIPTION:The annual BankWAW planting morning is on again this winter.  Thank you to BankWAW who donates the cost of plants\, guards\, and stakes for each new bank account opened in the previous year. \nThis year efforts will contribute towards establishing much needed canopy cover between Ryans Lagoon North and Ryans Lagoon.  It will support Traditional Owner aspirations for this site and create a wildlife refuge for native fauna to help them adapt to the changing climate. \nWhen: 9:00 am to 11:00 am. \nWhere: Park on Trabants Rd.\, Bonegilla\, just off the junction of Snowdons Rd. and Ryans Rd. \nWhat to bring: Closed shoes and long pants as the ground might be muddy. Also please bring your own water.\n \nWhat will be provided:\n• All tools\, equipment\, materials\, and gloves (unless you want to bring your own gloves).\n• BBQ lunch will include sausages\, bread\, and sauce. Those with special dietary requirements\, please BYO. \nPlease register here!\n\nAbout this event: Did you know that every time an account is opened at BankWAW\, they plant a tree? \nTrees create endless amounts of good. They clean the air we breathe\, filter the water we drink\, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. \nPlanting a tree is also one of the easiest and cheapest ways to take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere to tackle the climate crisis. It’s also the easiest way that we\, as individuals\, can reduce our own footprint.
