SUMMARY:Senior Celebrations Wildflower Walk
DESCRIPTION:Ranger Dan will lead a wildflower walk around the high conservation value Castle Creek Conservation Reserve.  Learn about the many important environmental values of this wildlife refuge whilst appreciating the wildflowers that may be on show at the time. \nThis is a medium-grade uphill slow walk on uneven ground along an unformed track that can be rocky in places. \nWhen: 9 am – 11 am. \nWhere: Meet at the reserve entrance off Castle Creek Rd\, Wodonga. \nWhat to bring: Please wear sturdy shoes and don’t forget your hat and some water! If you like\, bring some binoculars for birdwatching and a camera to capture the wildflowers. \nThis free event is part of Wodonga’s Senior Celebrations program. \nBookings required. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging session focused on improving soil health and unlocking productivity gains in beef and sheep farming systems. \nThis workshop will highlight region-specific insights and opportunities for producers in the Leneva-Wodonga area and is supported by Leneva Castle Creek Landcare group. \nPresented by Dr Cassandra Schefe. \nTopics covered: \n· Physical and chemical barriers in soil \n· Pasture root behavior and growth limitations \n· Soil carbon’s role in moisture retention and soil health \n· The connection between soil carbon and emissions \n· Soil pH testing\, lime applications\, and overall fertility \n· The importance of ground cover and topsoil protection \n· Selecting pasture species to optimise rainfall capture \n  \nPresented by Dr Cassandra Schefe\, a soil scientist with over 25 years’ experience in identifying and addressing soil constraints in agriculture\, with expertise and experience spanning from synchrotrons to soil pits. \nDelivered with funding support from the Commonwealth of Australia through the Department of Climate Change\, Energy\, the Environment and Water under the Carbon Farming Outreach Program.
