SUMMARY:Project Sprout – Community Planting Days\, Wodonga
DESCRIPTION:The Wodonga community is invited to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty this winter as Project Sprout launches an ambitious revegetation program that will build on 13 years of volunteer work through Landcare to transform the city’s parks\, trails\, and waterways into vibrant green corridors teeming with native wildlife. \nProject Sprout – Sustaining Parks: Restoring Our Urban Terrain – aims to plant over 7\,000 native tube stock across multiple locations throughout Wodonga\, creating vital wildlife corridors that will connect the Wodonga hills and waterways directly through the city to the Murray River. \nThese planting events are co-hosted by Wodonga Urban Landcare Network and our many member groups\, across Wodonga\, over 10 days at the end of June. \nPick a time and a place that works for you and come along! \nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own gloves and trowel – we will provide for those who don’t have their own. \nPlease register – we’ll keep you posted and remind you when to warm up your planting muscles. \nIf you would like more information about these events please email info@wodongalandcare.org.au. \nProject Sprout is proudly supported by Landcare Australia and BUPA.

SUMMARY:Browns Island Walk n’ Gawk
DESCRIPTION:In case you miss the Birding for Beginners and Avid Adventurers (on 19 June)\, there will be a longer 9 km walk with Parklands Albury Wodonga Rangers around Browns Island. This Murray River Island is located near Gateway Island between Albury and Wodonga. \nThe morning will feature a guided bushwalk around Browns Island to learn about the natural and cultural values of this hidden gem\, and the conservation actions underway. \nWith low water levels\, we will likely be able to walk across to the island through Wodonga Creek\, so you’ll need your gumboots! If you don’t have any\, Parklands can supply you with a pair. If river levels rise\, a Canadian canoe will be on hand to shuttle us across to the island. \nMorning tea will be provided. \nWhen: Friday 27 June\, 9 am to midday.\nWhere: Park off Bandiana Link\, Wodonga then walk 400 m to creek crossing site (see Browns Island walk map).\nWhat: Medium grade 9 km walk around Browns Island.\nWhat to bring: Please wear walking boots or enclosed shoes and carry gumboots for the creek crossing. Consider the weather and please wear a hat and bring a jacket if cool. Bring drinking water and snacks. Bring binoculars if you have them. \nPlease register here so we know you’re coming and can contact you in case things change before the event! \nThis activity is kindly funded by the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust under the Urban Rivers and Catchments Program.
