SUMMARY:Street Harvest
DESCRIPTION:‘Street Harvest’ was a pilot project developed in Wodonga in 2010. The Street Harvest Project grew out of a passion for transforming the local food system into one that is sustainable and strong. \nThe project builds and encourages community capacity and improves food security for Wodonga residents by distributing excess fruit and vegetables\, harvested from residential gardens\, to local residents and emergency food relief agencies. \nThe project is being reinvigorated – Please consider growing an extra row of produce in your garden to support this project and Uniting in Wodonga. \nAll produce can be dropped off at Uniting (1 Nilmar Avenue\, Wodonga between. 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Monday to Friday).

SUMMARY:Paradise Island Community Stewardship Day
DESCRIPTION:Join Parklands Rangers undertaking a variety of practical conservation works on our patch of paradise. Our neighbours call this Paradise Island! 8km of the 9km circuit around this Island\, to the east of Gateway Island\, was fenced and revegetated a decade ago\, providing quality habitat for many native fauna species. \nLearn how to remove the invasive plant species threatening this high conservation Murray River island. This is an opportunity to work alongside our Rangers experiencing the ‘how to’ of caring for our local bush. No experience is necessary – our Rangers will help with plant identification and removal techniques. \nTake in the fresh air\, get close to nature\, and learn about the local environment and how our community are working to protect threatened species\, improve habitat\, and link habitat corridors across the region. \nWe will be tackling privet\, box elder\, wild tobacco\, and plenty more species. You will become an expert in pest plant identification! These works are in preparation for reafforestation in future years. \nWhen: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (4 hrs). \nWhere: Carpool from the corner of Huon Street and Church Street\, Wodonga. Please arrive on time as we will leave at 9 am sharp. \nWhat is supplied: All tools and any specific safety equipment needed. \nWhat to bring: BYO drinking water. For your safety\, please wear covered shoes (preferably boots)\, long pants\, long sleeves\, and a hat. \nWho: Queries to Tilak 0421 278 246 \nPlease register here! Sometimes things change at the last minute and we need to be able to contact volunteers. Please note that these sessions run EVERY MONDAY FROM SEPT 30 THROUGH TO NOV 25. Make sure you click on the correct date when registering. \nThank you to the Victorian Government for financial support through the Bushbank Program.
