Housing cost in form of mortgage repayments or rent is growing as a portion of spending for Australian families, and governments at all levels are trying to address the issues of the public housing crisis, homelessness, and the level of affordability of housing for younger generations. This panel discussion will be an open forum on possible solutions and offer a platform to explore new ways of addressing some problems. The Victorian government has recently passed the Affordable Housing amendment to its Housing Act, which may be used to scale down the sizes of land parcels and dwellings, and perhaps lead to smaller or even Tiny Houses! The first speaker will be Howard Bartlett from SOAP House Design Inc. who will present a brief on the Victorian government’s recent Amendment. We will also have Judy Clarke from Transition Village Wallan to present the strategy their organisation employs. Helen Masterman-Smith will present her view on affordable housing and some research on what that means for the society today. We will hopefully soon get a confirmation of speakers from Wodonga and Albury councils as well.
